Welcome to the Moosup Pond Association Web Site !!!!

The 2010 Membership is at hand- Time to renew your membership

It has been another year already, whew! it went fast.  It's time again for our  membership renewal. Renewal is easy and fun for the whole family. I urge you to renew your membership and stay involved in the Moosup Pond Assoication.  For more information on renewal please click on  the "Members" section above. We have accomplished a lot in a short time and we still have a long way to go, we need your help.  As you already know, the second year's treatment is just as important as the first.  Hopefully, we can really knock back the milfoil and concentrate on other things, such as:

1- removal of the "weed mats" 2- provide invasive weed identification programs for interested members, 3- educate property owners on fertilzers and buffers and 4- exploring solution for futre, long term funding. The response to our request for donations to the 2010 weed treatment was great.  I want to thank each of you who donated.  We are close to our goal.  I ask that if you wanted to donate, please do so by sending in your donation to our address listed above.  A $100.00 donation is a small price to pay for a clean lake.

THE 2009 WEED TREATMENT REPORT IS IN!!!

You can access, read or download the PDF report from the "Latest News" section listed bove.

"MOOSUP POND IS DYING AT AN ACCELERATED RATE"

That is a line taken from an interdeparmental D.E.P. memo from the 1990's. The memo was in response to recent D.E.P. studies done on Moosup Pond and the memo warns that the Pond will fill in and die if nothing is done to reverse the trend. Fortunately, the Town did the sewer project and that slowed the growth of algea and nutrients. Next, the Association assisted the Town in the first year of weed treatment in 2009. Eveyone can see the noted improvement of the invasive weed situtation. Current treatment strategy is that the SECOND year is most important. You see, the invasive weeds is killed or weakened by the first treatment and the second treatment in 2010 is very important. To see pictures of the treatment process please click on "Treatment"   page for pictures.     It became obvious that the State will not have any monies available in 2010 for weed eradication, as they took back all grant monies in 2009. That is why we are reaching out to the public, our neighbors. We are asking for a donation of $ 100.00 from the area neighbors to suport the 2010 weed treatment program. This will allow us to focus on State and Federal grants for 2011. You may have recieved a letter from the Association President asking for a donation, please consider donating. We all have an interest in a healthy pond. so many Ponds and Lakes in the State are having huge weed and pollution problems, we want to work hard in the next few years to control our probelms and to reverse the effects. We are well on our way, but we need your help. If you swim, fish, canoe, kayak, sail or just like the view, we have a common interest. You can donate by sending your $100.00 doaniton to the:

Moosup Pond Assoication, P.O. box 513, Moosup, Conn 06354.

ATTENTION ALL COAST WATCHERS!!! Be on the lookout for any invasive plants. On photo page #3 you will see small and large photos of eurasian milfoil amnd fanwort. Both are vey bad and have invaded area lakes and ponds, please see Norwich bulleting article about invasive weeds in Griwold's four lakes.click here for article  A few days ago, there was a meeting in Griswold about their weed problem in four of their lakes, Pachaug, Asland, Hopeville and Glasgo. They are infested with Fanwort eurasian milfoil. They have no association(s) and do not seem to have any way out of their problem because it is so bad.  They need a MILLION DOLLARS just for Pachaug because Fanwort is so expensive to treat.  We have to do everyting we can to keep Fanwort and Eurasian milfoil out  of Moosup Pond.  For a link to the second Norwich bulletin article click here for second article     Luckily we have started our invasive weed program and it looks good for 2010. We have about a 50% response to our donation program, and if you would like to donate please do so by sending in your donation to : Moosup Pond Association, P.O. box 513, Moosup Conn. 06354 If you see questionable plants, please call and we can send out one of our trained members to evaluate the situtation.
